Anthony Hernandez (9-2, 1 NC) is scheduled to fight Marc-Andre Barriault (14-5, 1 NC) at an upcoming UFC Fight Night event on Sept. 17, with a location yet to be announced. Both fighters have bounced back from slow starts to their UFC careers to win three of their last four.
Hernandez was kicked out of the Contender Series after scoring a 40-second knockout over Jordan Wright, but the win was later overturned and Hernandez was suspended for six months after testing positive for marijuana. “Fluffy” next made his UFC debut on a February 2019 card where he lost via second-round submission to Markus Perez. He bounced back with his own submission win over Jun Yong Park and is currently on a two-fight winning streak, which includes a stunning submission win over Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Rodolfo Vieira.
Barriault, a former two-division champion with Canada’s TKO promotion, also found success after going winless in his first four UFC appearances (including a knockout win over Oskar Piechota that was vacated). due to Barriault’s positive test for ostarine). Anheliger (12-5) landed a contract in the Contender Series’ final season, beating former ONE Championship standout Muin Gafurov by split decision. In his UFC debut at UFC Vegas 48 last February, the Canadian veteran finished Jesse Strader with strikes in the third round. The victory extended Anheliger’s current winning streak to 10.
Sam Hughes and Piera Rodriguez have winning streaks on the line when they face off on October 15.
The strawweights will square off at an upcoming UFC Fight Night event in October, with a location yet to be announced. ESPN Sports was the first to report the game.
Hughes’ UFC run got off to an inauspicious start with three straight losses, including two fights that were taken on short notice. Coming off a decision loss to Luana Pinheiro, Hughes (7-4) has now won two straight, with a third-round TKO victory over Elise Reed in her last outing. This will be Hughes’ third fight since April.
Rodriguez is yet to taste defeat, having won his first eight professional fights. She worked her way to the UFC through the Contender Series, then made a successful debut with a unanimous decision victory over Kay Hansen at UFC 273 last April. The Venezuelan prospect has won five of his eight fights by KO/TKO.
