UFC 275: Teixeira vs. Prochazka odds, predictions: MMA expert posts surprising fight card picks, best bets

Glover Teixeira and Jiri Prochazka have different fighting styles and are nearly a generation in age, but the fighters share common ground ahead of their light heavyweight title fight on Saturday in the main event of the UFC 275. Teixeira makes his first title defense against second-ranked Prochazka to anchor the main fight card for UFC 275 (10 p.m. ET) from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. Teixeira is a 20-year veteran of professional mixed martial arts and spent 10 years with the UFC, while Prochazka hasn’t even been in the UFC for two full years. But both fighters told the media this week they believe a healthy respect for the threat the opponent poses and eliminating outside distractions are keys to success in the cage. As such, there was no chatter between them before the fight and they expressed mutual admiration for each other.

Prochazka is the -200 favorite (risk $200 to win $100), while Teixeira is priced at +170 in Caesars Sportsbook’s latest Teixeira vs. Prochazka odds. Women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko is listed at -700 in UFC 275 odds as she takes on No. 4 ranked contender Taila Santos (+500) in another title fight for the co-event major. UFC 275: Teixeira vs. Prochazka Preview

Teixeira’s run to the light heavyweight title is universally considered one of the best recent feel-good stories in MMA. The Brazilian made his UFC debut in May 2012 and has never lost more than two fights in a row while remaining a viable contender.

He won his first five UFC fights, but saw that streak end with a decision loss to former champion Jon Jones in April 2014, his first title fight. He went 5-4 in nine outings after the loss to Jones while consistently facing world-class opponents.

His second shot at the title followed a five-fight winning streak that included victories over former title challengers such as Anthony Smith and Thiago Santos. Teixeira (33-7) made the most of his second title bid, just days after turning 42, when he capitalized on a flat performance from Blachowicz and submitted the Polish fighter without much resistance.

Prochazka (28-3-1) is still an unknown to many MMA watchers, but the 29-year-old Czech Republic native has been a professional fighter for 10 years and has dominated the competition every step of the way.

He went 10-1 with the respected Rizin promotion, his only loss to former Strikeforce champion Muhammed Lawal in December 2015. Prochazka avenged that loss with a third-round knockout of Lawal in a title fight in April 2019.

Prochazka is the rare UFC rookie who was allowed to jump the line to candidate status due to his resume strength. His fate is similar to that of Michael Chandler, the former Bellator champion who immediately went into the top five when he signed with the UFC two years ago.

He won the title with a second-round stoppage in a savage brawl last May against Dominick Reyes, the former title challenger who pushed Jones to an extremely slim decision. You can only see who to support at UFC 275 on SportsLine.

UFC 275 fight card predictions

We’ll share one of Gombas’ UFC 275 predictions here: He sides with Zhang Weili (-160) to raise his hand against Joanna Jedrzejczyk (+140) in a clash of strawweight contenders on the main card. .

UFC President Dana White confirmed this week that the winner of this rematch of former champions will be next to face current champion Carla Esparza for another title shot. Their March 2020 first showdown in the UFC is widely considered one of the promotion’s most entertaining title fights and is considered the standard for women’s title fights.

Weili (21-3) and Jedrzejczyk (16-4) battled in the center of the Octagon for five full rounds with Weili, who was champion at the time, edging out a split decision. This time around it’s three rounds due to his non-title status, but Gombas is anticipating a similar fight.

“I see no reason why it won’t be a close decision again. Weili has been the most active fighter and I’m going to take her again,” Gombas told SportsLine.
