Like most UFC bantamweight, TJ Dillashaw couldn’t get past the elusive Dominick Cruz. However, he believes that fighting his former teammate Cory Sandhagen will be an even more difficult test to pass.
The former bantamweight champion revealed that he trained with Sandhagen at Elevation Fight Team to prepare for Cruz due to the similarity of their styles. Speaking to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Dillashaw said:
“I used Cory a lot in my fight against Cruz because of his footwork and his movements. I was in Colorado so I used him as much as possible in my camp with him wanting to show up.”
However, Dillashaw expects to see a better version of Sandhagen when they meet in the main event of UFC Vegas 32. The former champ went on to explain why he thinks Sandhagen is better than Cruz, the man. that he could not overcome:
“Cruz has good timing and he has a good unorthodox move. But Cory has a move with a goal. He has a lot more purpose behind his move, so you have to be aware of that.”

At UFC Vegas 32, TJ Dillashaw will return from a 30-month layoff. He was suspended by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) due to a failed doping control.
Title eliminator TJ Dillashaw vs. Cory Sandhagen
Whoever emerges victorious from TJ Dillashaw against Cory Sandhagen should win a bantamweight title shot. First, defending champion Aljamain Sterling and former champion Petr Yan must settle their controversial feud.
Sterling became the first fighter to win a UFC title due to disqualification after former title holder Yan hit him with an illegal knee during their title fight. The bantamweight title photo is currently in limbo as Sterling recovers from neck surgery. Upon his return, Yan is expected to get his rematch.
TJ Dillashaw, however, made a bold statement during his conversation with former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub. The California native insisted:
“This is the real title fight. Watching Aljamain and Petr fight I was not very impressed. I know Aljamain beat Cory but I was not impressed with this performance. I think that this is the real title fight, I can go out and prove myself and there is some pressure for sure.
