Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reacted after UFC women’s flyweight Molly McCann landed her second back elbow nudge of the year.
At UFC London last March, McCann made a major breakthrough into the mainstream, knocking out Luana Carolina with a unique spinning elbow. The shot drew a memorable reaction from her audience inside The O2, with the loud cheers continuing as she paraded around the Octagon with a UFC title double.
When she was booked against Hannah Goldy last weekend for the UFC’s second visit to the English capital of the year, few would have expected ‘Meatball’ to come close to replicating her memorable result. of March 19.
But lightning does indeed strike twice when McCann’s elbow is in town.
While she needed more than one elbow to complete “24K,” McCann found an opening for the spin technique in the very first round this time, stopping her American foe against the cage in another knockout.
And after once again recording perhaps the most memorable moment of the night, the Liverpudlian took to Twitter to address the man most associate themselves with: The Rock.
“@TheRock excuse me Mr. Rock, but may I continue to borrow the people’s elbow. It makes me cringe,” McCann wrote.
The Rock christens McCann’s Elbow, the “People’s Meatbow”
Before breaking through as a major movie star, Dwayne Johnson made a name for himself in professional wrestling, where he fought under the ring name, “The Rock.” One of his most notable moves in the ring saw him elbow his downed opponents – the ‘people’s elbow’.
While McCann’s first iteration of his own Scouser elbow may have flown under Johnson’s radar, the Liverpudlian made sure to take note of the second. Responding to the flyweight’s tweet, the famous MMA enthusiast congratulated McCann on her win and even offered the 32-year-old her own elbow nickname.
“From the elbow of the ELECTRIFYING people to the meat bow of the DEVASTATING people, it’s all up to you!” Keep kicking ass and having fun, champ! Much respect, Mr. Rock”
Now it’s the post-fight interactions with Drake, Stormzy and The Rock for McCann. Who’s next?
McCann certainly brings his own brand of energy and entertainment inside the Octagon, thanks in part to a loan elbow from the man who transcended him from a mere bone. While it’s hard to imagine The Rock parading backstage at a WWE event with a Paddy Pimblett wig and a bottle of Howler Head whiskey in hand…
In this sense, and so many others, McCann is truly unique.
