WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford has waited years to finally face a big name in the division. His opportunity finally arrives on Saturday night when he steps into the ring against former two-time welterweight champion Shawn Porter in a huge card showdown.
Crawford, long a fixture at the top of the pound-for-pound lists, won his welterweight championship in June 2018 with a TKO victory over Jeff Horn. A fighter for the Top Rank team, he was excluded from fights with the biggest names in welterweight, all of whom fight under the Premier Boxing Champions banner. Still, Crawford’s skills were constantly on display as he pulled off four defenses in his championship, all by save.
Porter, a PBC fighter, was ultimately the man tasked with taking on Crawford when the WBO made him a mandatory challenger. Porter won his first welterweight title in December 2013, beating Devon Alexander by decision. He lost that belt by split decision to Kell Brook two fights later. Porter also suffered a loss in his next title bid, abandoning a close and fiercely contested decision against Keith Thurman in June 2016.

Porter’s stamina in the division was demonstrated in September 2018, defeating Danny Garcia by decision to become WBC champion. He would retain that belt until he lost an exciting war with Errol Spence Jr. by split decision in December 2019.
Spence is the biggest item on the menu for Porter or Crawford, with Porter wanting a chance for revenge and Crawford wanting a showdown with the other top dog in the division. The winner takes the WBO title and could win the fight against Spence in the near future.
The undercard is filled with some interesting names. Former junior featherweight champion Isaac Dogbe is back in a preliminary fight against Christopher Diaz at featherweight. Dogbe, who holds the NABF title at 132 pounds, is starting a two-game winning streak. Diaz just lost to Emauel Navarrete in April. Additionally, middleweight prospect Janibek Alimkhanuly is back as he looks to continue his unbeaten run against Hassan N’Dam.
