Ryan Garcia (22-0) made his highly anticipated return to the ring against Emmanuel Tagoe (32-2) at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. It was a non-title fight.

GARCIA vs. TAGOE: Round 1

Garcia takes center ring and quickly tracks down Tagoe before unloading two big punches early. Garcia looks much, much bigger than Garcia in the ring. Garcia stalks and unleashes a jab. I can’t overstate how small Tagoe is compared to Garcia. Garcia has no feat of what Tagoe brings to the table. Straight to the body lands for Garcia. Tagoe effectively runs around the ring as fast as he can. The right hand follows a left from Garcia, making partial contact. The right hand lead lands for Garcia, then one to the body. Tagoe in full retirement.

GARCIA vs. TAGOE: Round 2

Tagoe’s corner has his face covered in Vaseline to start this round. Garcia comes out stalking, trying to line up a fight-ending punch. Tagoe searches for any escape route he can find as he doesn’t want to stand in front of Garcia for even a moment. Garcia misses two big shots to the head as Tagoe gets low. Tagoe partially lands a blow to the head and doesn’t get his bike. The right hand lands hard for Garcia and Tagoe is shaken. Tagoe falls on what felt like a push while staggering. Jab lands clean for Garcia. Tagoe lands a jab but is back along the ropes and looks to hold on whenever Garcia gets close enough.

Garcia 10-8, 20-17.

GARCIA vs. TAGOE: Round 3

Replay shows it was a punch that took Tagoe down and not a last-round push, fair enough. Ryan covers and applies tremendous pressure on Tagoe. Garcia’s uppercut makes partial contact. Now Garcia lands one to the body. The hard right hand lands on Garcia’s body now. Garcia lands another uppercut and Tagoe runs from corner to corner. Two body shots land for Garcia this time, then a slashing right. Garcia tries to time a left uppercut that doesn’t find the mark this time.

Garcia 10-9, 30-26.

GARCIA vs. TAGOE: 4th round

Garcia comes right after Tagoe and Garcia throws two punches and Tagoe seems to be holding. Right hook to the body lands for Garcia. Garcia throws a short combination and Tagoe is purely defensive. Garcia’s big right hand just misses upstairs. Two more body shots come from Garcia. Tagoe barely rejects most of the time. Tagoe is here to survive, not to win.

GARCIA vs. TAGOE: Round 5

Garcia’s right hand lands upstairs, then lands one to the body moments later. Garcia throws a jab upstairs. Tagoe’s right hand lands clean upstairs but Garcia fights back with two hooks to the body. Garcia unloads another combination as Tagoe covers in the corner.

Garcia 10-9, 50-44.

GARCIA vs. TAGOE: Round 6

Garcia throws a combination that doesn’t land well. Tagoe kicks to the body and Garcia responds with two low hooks. Three more punches come from Garcia with mixed success. Tagoe gets caught with a right hook to the body. Another short jumpsuit comes from Garcia. Garcia cuts a right hand upstairs, then another that makes Tagoe smile. Tagoe throws his jab multiple times now.

Garcia 10-9, 60-52.

GARCIA vs. TAGOE: Round 7

Garcia stalks and misses two big punches aimed for the head. The right hand to the body makes contact with Garcia. The left hook lands for Tagoe as Garcia walks in straight. Two more body shots come from Garcia, who then adds a right to the head. Garcia puts up a few punches during an aggressive streak, trying to put this fight aside. Lands straight to the body for Garcia. Two more body shots come from Garcia.

Garcia 10-9, 70-62.

GARCIA vs. TAGOE: Round 8

Garcia’s left hook makes partial contact upstairs. Garcia’s right hand catches Tagoe in the head and Tagoe tries to mount the follow-up assault down the ropes. Left makes partial contact for Garcia along the ropes. Garcia’s right hand might have shifted Tagoe slightly.

Garcia 10-9, 80-71.

GARCIA vs. TAGOE: 9th round

Garcia throws punches but Tagoe gets low and tries to stay under the punches. The hard left to the body lands well for Garcia. The hard left lands to the body again for Garcia. Garcia is starting to land better shots here and Tagoe is having a harder time keeping his distance. The right hand lands clean for Garcia upstairs. Two more hard shots land for Garcia, who then tries to lean on Tagoe to help him carry to his legs. Garcia’s right hand makes contact upstairs again.

Garcia 10-9, 90-80.

GARCIA vs. TAGOE: Round 10

Garcia comes out pressing Tagoe who tries to meet him with punches but he doesn’t seem to have any power that Garcia needs to worry about. Garcia’s left hook makes solid contact, then a hard right that staggers wickedly to Tagoe who holds on! Garcia tries to finish off Tagoe but misses a left hook. Garcia’s right hand lands but not at full power as Tagoe pulls the punch back a bit. Garcia’s left hook makes better contact this time.

Garcia 10-9, 100-89.

GARCIA vs. TAGOE: Round 11

Tagoe moving along the ropes as Garcia tries to find the fight-ending punch. Tagoe lands a shot upstairs. Garcia’s left hook makes partial contact with the head and Tagoe gets on his bike, holds, does whatever he can to stop the action.

Garcia 10-9, 110-98.

GARCIA vs. TAGOE: Round 12

Well, if there was any doubt, Tagoe would do whatever it takes to reach the final bell, he starts the round holding several times. Tagoe ducks low, holds, throws two punches, then looks to hold again. Garcia’s left hook lands hard on the floor. The lead from the right again establishes contact for Garcia. Garcia tries to line up another big right hand but can’t land it as Tagoe fully commits to dodging the punches by any means necessary.
