Report: Chael Sonnen detained over multiple citations for battery in alleged Las Vegas hotel altercation

UFC and Bellator veteran Chael Sonnen has reportedly been arrested by police following an alleged altercation at a Las Vegas hotel.

TMZ reports that Sonnen, 44, was arrested by police on Saturday evening and received five summons for assault and battery. Sonnen was not arrested, although TMZ’s report also includes video of what appears to be Sonnen being escorted out of the hotel in handcuffs.

According to the report citing law enforcement sources, witnesses saw Sonnen “knocking on the door of a hotel room” and then become embroiled in a physical altercation with a couple he later met. The nature of these interactions and the conflict that followed was unclear.

Sonnen did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A message to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department requesting further information has not been returned at the time of writing.

Paramedics also answered the call, according to TMZ, but no injuries were reported.

Sonnen, who retired from MMA competition in 2019, is currently working as a member of the Bellator commentary team and as a UFC analyst for ESPN. In his 49-fight career, Sonnen competed twice for the UFC middleweight title and once for the UFC light heavyweight title.
