UFC lightweight contender Rafael Fiziev explained why he didn’t like watching Khabib Nurmagomedov fight, saying “I was never his fan.”
Fiziev is one of the best forwards in the UFC lightweight division and he just put on a show against veteran Bobby Green at UFC 265. In a three-round war, Fiziev nominated Green to take the lead. decision and move to 4-1 in the UFC. The pair of fighters also won $ 50,000 each for “Fight of the Night”. The talented Fiziev is quickly approaching the top 15 in the UFC lightweight division and could potentially make an even bigger push if he manages to fight one of the best dogs in the division. And even though he is now retired, there is no bigger fish in the sea than former champion Nurmagomedov.
Speaking to MMA reporter James Lynch in a recent interview, Fiziev admitted that he was never a Nurmagomedov fan, explaining that he found his style uninteresting to watch. The forward took another shot at elite wrestlers when he said he also didn’t like watching Islam Makhachev fight, suggesting his fight against Drew Dober was boring.
“I was never his fan because we have different styles. We have great different styles. I am a striker and he is a wrestler. In wrestling he is very tough and you can win against everyone with his wrestling that Khabib has, but I don’t like that style. I don’t like fights like when Islam Makhachev fought with Drew Dober (at UFC 259). Three rounds of wrestling and nothing to show. He finished it, but it was a boring fight, ”Fiziev said.
It will be interesting to see if Nurmagomedov or Makhachev see these comments and what they do with them. For Fiziev, he’s probably trying to make noise and fight.
Do you agree with Rafael Fiziev on his critique of the styles employed by Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev?
