The New York Red Bulls will look to extend their three-game winning streak for the first time since 2018, when they travel to Gillette Stadium to face the Eastern Conference leaders New England Revolution on Wednesday.
New England scored two minutes before injury time to win a home and away game against New York City FC 3-2, while the Red Bulls beat Nashville SC 2-0 on Friday.
Everything seems to be going for the best for the Revolution at the moment, with four straight wins, as they lead the Eastern Conference with 20 points and are just one point behind the Seattle Sounders for the league’s best record.
Every week it seems a new hero emerges for this team, the latest being midfielder Tommy McNamara, who scored in the 88th minute as his side beat a pesky New York FC team who refused to leave. .
McNamara is the eighth different Revs player to get his name on the scoresheet in 2021, which shows the depth and versatility of this team, who have proven in their opening nine games that their run to the conference finals in 2020. was no accident.
The Revolution is constantly finding ways to win, although Bruce Arena would love to see them finish those games much sooner in the future, as New England have won three of their previous four games with 20 minutes or less to play.
Winning four in a row is a feat this team hasn’t achieved since 2015, but they’ll be keen to keep that streak going, especially knowing that the Philadelphia Union and Orlando City SC are only five away. points behind them in the standings.
Wednesday’s game will be televised via myTV38 in the Boston TV Marketplace and myRITV (WPRI) in Rhode Island. You can also watch the match online at the national level by registering at ESPN + (subject to blackout in New England).

Major League Soccer is launching a lower level professional league aimed at developing the young players in its academy system.
The new league, which will rank below the USL Second Division Championship, will begin playing next year and will include teams affiliated with current MLS clubs as well as independent teams.
The name of the league has not been announced. About 20 clubs are expected to participate in the first season, which begins in March and runs through the fall, ending with a league game in December.
MLS Deputy Commissioner Mark Abbott said the new league is an outgrowth of the MLS Next platform and team academies, offering elite players who may not be quite ready for the first division an accelerated path to a professional career.
“The key missing piece for us was this place where our young players could get meaningful minutes in high level competition,” he said.
MLS Next, launched last year, is designed to fill the void following the disbandment of its development academy by US Soccer.
Beyond player development, MLS also sees business opportunities for clubs participating in the new league, especially in markets that currently do not have MLS teams. Likewise, it will provide career opportunities for coaches and support staff.
Abbott has said the new league is not intended to supplant the USL Championship or Ligue 1, but he expects MLS clubs currently participating in those leagues to migrate. The new league sought sanction from Division III of US Soccer.
“Our anticipation is that USL, with whom we have an excellent relationship, will remain a very strong and dynamic league, and will continue to do as much for player development as it has and will continue to help develop the league. sport in this country, ”says Abbott. “I think we’re going to see this league continue to thrive. But over time, I would expect most (MLS) clubs to eventually all be in this league. “
In a statement, USL said, “The more avenues there are for young players across the country, the better. We wish MLS success in their endeavors and look forward to continuing our work together to develop the sport of football in the United States. “
The new league will be managed from the MLS headquarters in New York. A commissioner has not yet been appointed.
The league is viewed by MLS as crucial to player development in the United States, as a record 20% of MLS club spots are filled this season by academics.
As a professional league, players will earn salaries unless they aim to retain college eligibility.
