- Jarred Brooks realizes the challenge Hiroba Minowa faces when they go head to head
- Brooks beat Joshua Pacio’s teammate Lito Adiwang at ONE: NextGen III last November
- Pacio made it clear recently that he doesn’t want to be a part of Brooks’ mind games.
Jarred Brooks is fully focused on a date with Strawweight King Joshua Pacio for his title, but he’s not looking past his current clash against No.4-ranked Hiroba Minowa.
“Minowa is a good fight for me. He’s young. I think that would be a good test for me to fight someone who is in the top four compatible. We both beat Lito [Adiwang]. We had the same opponent, and he also beat Alex Silva. He beat two of the best guys, “said Brooks, as quoted by ONE Championship.
“I think it’s fair that we do this first and then do this pretty boy [Joshua Pacio] looks a little uglier. “
Brooks got off to a good start with the Singapore-based promotion last November at ONE: NextGen III, forcing Pacio’s teammate Lito Adiwang to shoot an arm triangle choke midway through the second round.
Since deciding to become a professional fighter in 2014, the MMA veteran has battled against competitors who wear a multitude of styles and disciplines before landing with ONE Championship, making him an absolutely believable threat. .
Minowa is Brooks’ next No.3-ranked challenge in the organization, and the 28-year-old American has made it clear he needs to pass him first before facing Pacio.
Minowa, 22, is currently leading a six-game winning streak that started before joining the Singapore-based team and will look to extend it to seven in hopes of fighting for the title himself.
Both men are highly technical grapplers, with Brooks having a slight advantage due to his supernatural wrestling abilities which keep his opponents in difficult ground positions.
Pacio has previously stated that he’s not going to mess with Brooks’ mind games and chatter, as it’s just not in his nature to indulge in such pre-fight antics.
“I’m in the top three. I can do anything I want. I feel like I’m on the loose here, man. So yeah, watch out, top five – anyone in that strawweight division. I feel like a man on a mission. I see tunnel vision. That’s what I’m here for, man, ”Brooks said proudly.
Minowa and Brooks will meet on the ONE: Only The Brave main card on January 28.
