LFA 120 results: Daiqkwon Buckley spoils former NBA player Royce White’s MMA debut

A former NBA first-round pick made his MMA debut on

Royce White, the 16th pick in the 2012 Houston Rockets Draft, faced Daiqkwon Buckley LFA 120 Friday night at the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake, Minnesota. In the end, Buckley spoiled White’s much-anticipated debut with a grinding style against a much taller opponent by securing a unanimous decision victory in the heavyweight bout.

White used a lot of movement and a stiff jab early on as he took advantage of a huge range advantage. The pair traded big blows with Buckley, certainly catching the attention of his fellow professional rookie with a right hand before they came close and landed. White was able to get back on his feet, but Buckley managed a second out before the first honk sounded.

Buckley kept trying to put pressure on the Whites in the second, but the former Sacramento Kings member started to open up a bit more with his strike. Buckley, a former Baltimore police officer, used numerous melee attempts against the fence and also succeeded in a teardown.

It was clear that Buckley’s intention in the third was to smother White against the cage and try to get the fight to the ground. A hand-to-hand battle against the fence took place for more than half of the final stanza. White eventually got some separation, landing a hard right hand. Buckley noticed that White took a few steps back and returned straight to the clinch before landing a big strikeout in the last minute of the fight.

After the 15 minutes of action, one judge scored the fight 30-27, while the other two judges scored it 29-28 for Buckley in his first fight since a submission victory in his last amateur fight in April 2017.
