Leah McCourt claims her fight with Sinead Kavanagh must take place in 3 Arena

IRISH FIGHTER Leah McCourt has said her fight with Sinead Kavanagh is due to take place in Dublin. The Belfast native was on OTB-AM Tuesday morning and said the Bellator 275 fight in Dublin couldn’t have come at a better time.

The fight in Dublin comes after Kavanagh came up short against MMA legend Cris Cyborg while McCourt is on a six-fight winning streak.

McCourt said:

“Every time I was asked about this fight I said it should happen in Dublin, it couldn’t happen anywhere else and we’re kind of at that point in our careers.

“It’s perfect timing and it has to happen in Arena 3 so I was excited because if I was a fan I would want to watch this fight.”

It could come down to hitting Kavanagh or wrestling McCourt, but McCourt thinks the variety of fighting styles wouldn’t be a problem for either.

“Striker versus grappler, we’re both from Ireland and we’re both going to train hard, fight hard and leave it all in the cage, so I think it’s going to be a good night.”

The two know each other well and have trained together before and there doesn’t seem to be any bad blood between them, as McCourt explained.

“I know her very well. She helped me in a camp, years ago, she came to help me train.

“I already made his corner in Bellator. It’s never personal to me, the fight is about me and my career and it’s the same for Sinead.

Whatever the outcome, McCourt thinks there will be a drink afterwards

“We will fight with our hearts and we will probably have a drink afterwards.

“It’s just who we are, we’re just honest enough. Work hard, fight hard and there’s no mess around it.
