Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano – Battle for Supremacy

This Saturday, April 30, the fate of the women’s lightweight division will be decided as the undisputed women’s lightweight champion. Katie Taylor (20-0, 6 KOs) will defend his throne against the rising Puerto Rican star Amanda Serrano (42-1-1, 30 KOs) in the boxing capital of Madison Square Garden.

Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano Preview

Although Taylor is the undisputed lightweight division champion, it is Amanda Serrano’s 33-year-old challenger who has more experience and accolades, holding the title in seven divisions.

Serrano has plenty of experience fighting in front of his Puerto Rican stalwarts in ‘Mecca’, having defeated Heather Hardy in September 2019 by unanimous decision and a stoppage in the first round Eva Voraberger earlier in the year. More recently, Serrano has dominated on the undercard of both Jacques-Paulfights former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodleyflying Yamileth Mercado and Miriam Gutierrez from pillar to post. “The Real Deal” Serrano is also undefeated in three professional MMA bouts, earning a submission win at the iKON Fighting Federation 7 main event last June.

Katie Taylor, meanwhile, picked up a career-defining win at The Garden by beating Delfin Person also in 2019. Like Serrano, Taylor also has a dominating unanimous decision victory under her belt, coming November 2020.

Their styles are completely opposite as Taylor relies on technique and high volume boxing to get inside the opponent’s guard, control the tempo of the fight and display ring generality.

Serrano is a more complete fighter, however. She is a southpaw, who can also display the same technical prowess as the Irish native; however, she displays vicious power over the body no matter what division the Brooklyn fighter is competing in.

It will truly be a special night for women’s boxing and for the sport as a whole as the two best pound-for-pound female fighters meet on the biggest stage possible.
