Jessica Eye will likely have to wait until a later date for her next fight after revealing she was admitted to hospital last weekend after falling ill.
The former flyweight title contender is set to face Andrea Lee in the upcoming UFC Fight Night card in Las Vegas on November 13.
“[This past Thursday], I thought I was dealing with an allergic reaction to fish roe that I didn’t notice in my sushi role until it was too late, ”Eye wrote on Instagram. “Extremely allergic to eggs. It was Thursday evening that the fever started. So I followed the protocol when I was exposed to a food allergy. Thursday was tough but I woke up on Friday feeling fine but [with] brain fog, which is usually [a] symptom after an allergy attack or exposure to foods to which I am allergic.
“Friday was a normal day and I was ready for this weekend’s race, but I felt like the adrenaline was keeping me going. However, on Friday night the fever returned. At this point I had negative COVID [test] so I brushed it off. I was like fucking fish eggs.
Eye was scheduled to compete in a grappling competition on Saturday, but that’s when her symptoms worsened and she was forced to seek help.
This ultimately led to her being admitted to the hospital for further testing, which has now led Eye to expect to stay there for the next few days while medics monitor her situation.
“Saturday morning I had my morning shake and felt normal, so to speak,” Eye explained. “I took another allergy pill just in case, took a nap, got up and competed. I felt great warming up but definitely shaking and turned off but me being me, I brushed it off. Then Saturday night, [that’s] the worst I have ever felt in my life. Aches, fever, sweat more than ever, even during weight loss. That’s when I felt like I couldn’t ignore it anymore.
“On Sunday, I was admitted to the hospital with such severe pain that I could barely stand or not cry. They are still doing tests and it looks like we have a clear diagnosis that I will share soon, but I will be spending a few days in the hospital.
As she waits for her doctor’s words about her diagnosis and the treatment needed to recover, Eye said she will be focusing on her health for now, which obviously means she probably won’t be. able to compete as quickly as the November 11 event. 13.
“My team and I decided to join this fight and focus on my health,” Eye said. “I have been fighting for a year and this is my top priority. I have already lost my gallbladder. I no longer intend to lose.
As of yet, the UFC has not made any official announcements regarding Eye’s fight or his plans for Lee on the upcoming November 13 card.
For now, Eye is just trying to stay positive as she deals with this latest health issue that has kept her from competing.
“Please send me all the good vibes,” Eye wrote. “Hope to update you guys [as] as soon as I’m out of the hospital and completely back into Jess mode.
