Undisputed UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and interim champion Ciryl Gane continue to talk about their fighting style ahead of their main event.
The two seem to respect each other, as they congratulated each other. Gane said Ngannou is “the most powerful and athletic human” he has ever seen. Ngannou returned the compliment and admired Gane for possessing the best style of kickboxing in MMA.
On his YouTube channel on Thursday, Ngannou was asked about middleweight champion Israel Adesanya’s fighting style, to which Ngannou responded by taking a hit at Gane. Ngannou compared the similar kickboxing styles of the two and said Adesanya is a better version of Gane.
“He’s (Adesanya) a great guy, the best forward in the game, definitely,” said Ngannou. “Because when you look at his style, he does everything Ciryl does but in a better way.”
Ngannou said he even tried to get Adesanya to help him train with him to prepare for taking on a kickboxing style heavyweight in Gane. Ngannou claims the reason he couldn’t get “The Last Stylebender” was due to the strict travel restrictions where Adesanya resides in New Zealand.
“By the way, I (tried) to have him for this training camp, but the travel restrictions with New Zealand didn’t really help us,” Ngannou said. “But he would have loved to come here and help me with the hitting part of the game, the footwork and everything.
Gane and Adesanya are among the top kickboxers in the UFC, with names like Stephen Thompson, Joanna Jędrzejczyk, Valentina Schevchenko and many more with them.
Ngannou and Gane are just weeks away from finally fighting for the heavyweight championship, which will be held on January 22. Ngannou (16-3) will be looking to make his first title defense since getting gold in the UFC when he knocked out Stipe Miocic at UFC 260. As for Gane, he will be looking to retire the gold in the UFC. word “interim” of his current title and become the undisputed king of heavyweights with a victory over Ngannou.
