A massive featherweight fight is set to headline the UFC’s first scheduled event in 2022.
Several people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans have confirmed to MMA Fighting that a clash between Calvin Kattar and Giga Chikadze will take place during the five-round main event on the UFC fight card on January 15 at a location and a venue that has yet to be officially announced.
The fight was originally reported by MMA Junkie and ESPN, but multiple sources told MMA Fighting that at the time of reporting the fight had not been officially agreed and no contract had been submitted, although preliminary discussions had been held. are in progress. It was only recently that all parties were on board, agreements were in place and contracts were subsequently signed.
Kattar will be looking to bounce back from a unanimous decision loss to Max Holloway in the UFC Fight Island 7 main event in January. The world’s No.7 MMA Fighting featherweight entered this fight after back-to-back wins over Jeremy Stephens and Dan Ige.
Chikadze has won nine straight wins, including a perfect 7-0 start to his octagonal tenure. The No.8 ranked fighter on the MMA Fighting World Rankings has finished his last three opponents, Jamey Simmons, Cub Swanson and – in his first promotional headliner – Edson Barboza.
