Billy Quarantillo is thrilled to take on a ranked opponent and make it to Madison Square Garden.

On the main card for UFC 268, Quarantillo has the chance to fight 14th-ranked Shane Burgos. It’s an intriguing clash and when Quarantillo got the call for this fight he said it was an immediate yes.

“We had to figure out who was going to be next after my last fight and I told them I’m ready for anyone,” Quarantillo said on Just Scrap Radio on “While I was on my honeymoon they actually mentioned that there weren’t a lot of guys above you who looked that good so he could be a ranked guy. That’s when I was like ‘oh shit.’ It all happens for a reason, I just got a huge win and since then I’m improving and doing all I can to get a good training camp and get that MSG win… I didn’t think I would fight him so early so it’s a pleasant surprise, but I know I’m ready for it.

Once the fight was confirmed, Quarantillo started training and got excited watching Burgos. He knows their styles match well, so it should be a fan-friendly fight. However, the Buffalo native is convinced that he is a good match for Burgos and can take this fight anywhere he wants.

“He’s going to come over to try and knock my head off and I’ll do the same.” It’s going to be an incredible fight. I think I’m going to surprise a lot of people, ”Quarantillo said. “I have more KOs than him and I can put people in huts on the feet. There have been other fights where people say this person will overtake me and I was able to prove that a lot of people were wrong. It’s just a bigger spotlight and I love the way we adjust to the feet and my jiu-jitsu, overall I love the game.

Against Shane Burgos, Billy Quarantillo is well aware that Burgos will be difficult to train in deep water as he does for most of his opponents.

Still, for Quarantillo, he’s confident he’ll take the upset victory and win the stoppage against Burgos to cement himself as a legitimate featherweight contender.

“He can shoot. We both have good conditioning because he’s not a guy that I’m going to drag in deep water like with Shane you have to take him out, ”explained Quarantillo. “I’m going to attack him, work my shot, work everything and wherever the easiest path to get the win, whether it’s ripping a neck and getting a choke or getting that perfect shot, I’m going to take the opportunity and do it.” . . “

The plan for Quarantillo is to put on a show for the fans and become a household name on Sunday morning. If he does exactly that, he knows he can start working his way up the featherweight ranks to eventually fight for the belt.

“Just big fights. I’m happy to have MSG fighting, at this point, climbing up and being a ranked guy, especially if I’m able to do what I want to do and that is put on a show and get a dominant win. These are the best guys here chasing a world championship, ”concluded Quarantillo.
