Alexander Volkanovsky warns Max Holloway to “stop playing games” and accept trilogy fight

Alexander Volkanovski warns Max Holloway to “stop playing bull games ** t” after UFC featherweight rival teased other options instead of trilogy showdown

  • Max Holloway defeated Yair Rodriguez in five-round thriller last Saturday night
  • He lost twice to featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski
  • Holloway has clearly established himself as the top contender once again
  • But he was talking about other fights, like a clash with Conor McGregor

Alexander Volkanovski told Max Holloway to “stop playing games” and decide if he wants a trilogy fight.

The UFC featherweight champion maintained his perfect organizational record and beat “Blessed” twice, although their second fight is divided.

Since then, Holloway has beaten Calvin Kattar and defeated Yair Rodriguez in a five-round thriller this past weekend, but doesn’t appear to be pushing hard for a trilogy with Volkanovski.

Holloway has spoken of his interest in fighting Conor McGregor and has been shy about his next move.

But Volkanovsky doesn’t have time for his rival’s final plans, telling The MMA Hour: “I’m not surprised, man. All week he’s been [talking about] “bigger fights” and all that. Once again, I am the champion. You can say whatever you want, you can push all the bullshit stories you want, I’m not going into that.

“But hey, look, at the end of the day you’ve got a 0-2 record and you’re trying to behave like, ‘Oh yeah, maybe we’ll see.’

“Dude, if you don’t want it, don’t worry. I’ll go find the next guy. There are lots of people waiting. But again, I want the best guys. Max has proven himself to be the next best guy.

He added, “Just respect for him as a fighter, but stop playing the games and all the bulls ** t. You want the fight, let the UFC know.

“You know the UFC is telling you about it. They tell us about it. You don’t want it, hurry up, we’ll see who’s next. No matter.

While the 33-year-old champion is frustrated, he insists he will face other top contenders himself, and mentioned Henry Cejudo, who remains retired.

Volkanovsky continued: “I’m used to it now. I don’t know what games he’s playing, I don’t really understand where he is going. I think he’s just trying to be like, “Oh yeah, I’m the big dog.”

“I don’t know what it is, maybe that’s where he’s trying to go with it, like I’m going to fight on.” But the way he’s doing it, I’m about to say, “Oh, Henry Cejudo, do you want it? I know you’re asking for it. Henry, come on, let’s go then. ”

“I want the best guys in my division. If they want to play their bullshit, I don’t wait.

The UFC are reportedly pushing for a third fight between Volkanovski and Holloway and the Australian believes he will have to be considered the greatest featherweight of all time if he wins.

He added: “Obviously Giga [Chikadze] calls me, he fights [Calvin] Kattar soon. But whatever. Again, there are options. There are still options, but I’m a competitor and I want the best.

“If you go out and prove yourself again to someone like Max, then I’m the GOAT.” You have to take Max [out] again if you are the GOAT of the featherweight division.

‘I have a lot of respect for [Jose] Aldo and what he did, but you start to take out all those better guys and say it too… I don’t think a lot of people can question that.
