Total Combat 13

Thru the smell of grilled onions on bratwurst Current Total Combat 185 Champion Art “Pahuco” Santore battled UFC vet Edwin “Baby Face” Dewees. Dewees came out striking and was able to get Santore to the mat and move to full mount. From Mount Dewees fired down punches that hurt Santore forcing him to give up his back. Showing great heart Santore was able to fight off a rear naked choke attempt and move into Edwin’s guard. After some inactivity Herb Dean stood the fighters up and they began exchanging blows. Backed into a corner Dewees shot for a double and Santore sprawled but made the mistake of kneeing Dewees while one of his hands was still on the ground. Being the most polite fighter in MMA Santore quickly apologized to Joe Riggs, in Dewees Corner, and kissed Dean on the cheek for deducting a point off his score card.

After losing the first round 8-10 the Team Quest fighter knew he had to take the second round so he came out looking to finish. Santore threw a barrage of punches at Dewees putting him down with a right hook and finishing him on the ground by landing 4 to 5 unblocked punches to Dewees head. Herb Dean saw enough and quickly halted the fight at 14 seconds gone by in the second round. Dewees quickly popped up after the fight was stopped causing some boos from the crowd. “He didn’t defend against the punches. He (Santore) landed about 5 punches and Edwin did nothing to defend them… Move you hips move a leg do something and I will let you continue to fight but he did nothing I had to stop it” stated Dean after the fight. “Then Art feeds me to the lions saying that he wouldn’t have stopped the fight so soon. (in the post fight interview) I would have said I was throwing with bad intentions and landing devastating blows… Edwin is lucky Herb stopped the fight…” Art Santore over Edwin Dewees by TKO at 0:14 in the second. Santore retains the 185 belt.

Sanchez shows heart.

Total Combat 13Eddie “Dirty” Sanchez showed that he is the toughest Heavyweight in the Total Combat organization by outlasting UFC vet Wade “Nightmare” Shipp. Shipp looked to be on the verge of knocking Sanchez out at any moment even landing 2 huge high kicks that both sent Dirty tumbling to the mat. With Shipp ahead on the cards in the 3rd , Sanchez at about a quarter tank and Shipp with his warning light on, Eddie took one of the previously mentioned high kicks sending him to the mat. Some how Sanchez recovered and took the giant to the ground landing in side mount. On the ground Sanchez was able to land several punches on an unresponsive ship forcing the ref to call the fight. Eddie Sanchez over Wade Shipp TKO at 4:23 in the 3rd.

Swanson avenges loss.

In other action King of the Cage standout Cub Swanson took on local favorite Shannon Gugerty. Swanson, looking to avenge his only MMA loss, dominated Gugerty on the ground and standing in the first. Halfway thru the second with Gugerty hurt from Cubs constant ground and pound barrage he is able to move from side control to full mount with one of Shannons arms trapped. Cub makes quick work of his wounded foe with punches forcing the ref to stop the fight. Cub Swanson over Shannon Gugherty at 3:40 in the second.
